Date Stamps - Post & Telegraph Office.


From the 1930s, a rubber date stamp was produced in a range of shapes and sizes with the inscription Post & Telegraph Office or just Post & Telegraph. The date stamps listed on this page are the known rubber date stamps headed with either of these inscriptions.

All date stamps below are rubber unless otherwise indicated.

The shape of the date stamps varies from circular (RC) to oval (RO) to rectangular (RR).

  Clunes RO6-P&TO (26 × ? mm). 1914, 14 July 1915 and 2 February 1916 (1 partial strike and only 2 complete examples recorded - all in blue).
  Cohana RO2-P&TO (29 × 47 mm).
Postcode (3568) after Cohuna.
22 August 1972 in violet (only recorded example).

 

D Office Type (h × w) Dates of use.
  Derrinallum
RO2-P&TO (28 × 44 mm). 10 December 1927.
The only strike recorded is in the manfacturer's impression book.

  Elwood RO6-P&TO (29 × 49 mm). 24 October 1939.
  With S3 following ELWOOD. RO6-P&T (32 × 52 mm). 1941 to 31 December 1943 in violet.
